Frenchman Christophe Ponsson returns to the WorldSBK grid in 2021 after wildcard appearances throughout 2020. He will switch from Aprilia to Yamaha machinery as he links up with the Team Gil Motor Sport outfit, running a Yamaha YZF-R1.
Ponsson has been in and out of the paddock since 2011, competing in European Superstock 600, European Superstock 1000 and WorldSBK. He was on the fringes of top-ten finishes throughout his first stint in WorldSBK, taking a best result of 11th in 26 races in 2015. He returned to STK100 for 2016 for five races, following on from his ten in 2013, taking a best result of tenth across his STK1000 career.
His best result in STK600 came at Portimao, a track WorldSBK will visit in 2021, when he secured a tenth-place finish onboard Yamaha machinery. Ponsson has plenty of experience of various motorbikes, but will he able to use this throughout the 2021 season?
