Wild cards ready for Buriram battle

With just two weeks to go before the second round of the FIM Supersport World Championship hits Thailand, anticipation fills the air ahead of the return of Thitipong Warokorn (Core Kawasaki Thailand Racing Team) and Decha Kraisart (Yamaha Thailand Racing Team), with Ratthapong Wilairot (Yamaha Thailand Racing Team) joining as a One Event rider. Battling in front of their home crowds once again, the trio will no doubt set the track alight.

37 year old Kraisart stood on the podium in front of his adoring home fans from fourth position on the grid, as he made his third appearance in a row around Chang International Circuit. Bouncing back from eighth position on the first lap, the Thai rider faced a tough battle on the final lap against Italian and fellow Yamaha rider Federico Caricasulo (GRT Yamaha Official WorldSSP Team). Missing out on the victory by 0.7s, he will no doubt have his eyes on the prize this year with his YZF-R6.

Taking on the Kawasaki ZX-6R once again this season, Warokorn is set to make his third WorldSSP appearance, wild carding in 2015 and 2017 in Buriram. Unable to match the pace of his compatriot last season, he still put on a fantastic show for his fans out on track. Taking a top five finish in the 17 lap thriller, Warokorn improved eight positions throughout the race to put up a strong fight on his home territory. With the Core Kawasaki Racing Team for 2018, the 29 year old will set his sights on making the break onto the podium.

Ratthapong Wilairot is the third rider to join the championship in Thailand, as a one event rider. Making his fourth appearance in the popular class, the Thai rider took a top five in his first ever WorldSSP race in Thailand back in 2015, but is yet to emulate this success. Joining Kraisart in the Yamaha Thailand Racing Team, Wilairot won’t be on to count out.
