Yamaha rider rebounds from double Saturday crash with calm and composed Race Two performance

Alex Lowes (Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Team) managed to scrape back a sixth-place finish in Race Two at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, taking home ten points for the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship standings. Whilst that was probably not the return Lowes was expecting or hoping for at the start of the Riviera di Rimini Round, it is still enough to keep the Yamaha rider in fifth place, tied with Marco Melandri ( Racing – Ducati).

Saturday quickly turned into a torrid affair for the Lincolnshire local, with three crashes (one in the Superpole 2 and two in Race One) scuppering any chance of Lowes returning to the podium. That left Lowes facing another uphill battle in Race Two, having to start from the back of row four. An excellent first lap from the Yamaha rider lifted him to seventh at the start, with Xavi Fores’ (Barni Racing Team) retirement pushing Lowes up to sixth two laps later, where he would remain for the entirety of Race Two.

Lowes was not too displeased with his Sunday performance: “Starting from twelfth after yesterday’s problems… It was always going to be a tough race for me. I managed to do the best I could, I was only six seconds off the win and, to be honest, I lost a lot of that at the start”.

“I was just struggling a bit at the front, not quite as comfortable as I’d want to be or have been in the last couple of rounds”, he adds. “That’s all I could do today. Got some points, now I’ll try and learn from it and come back stronger after the summer break”.
