WorldSBK returned to Brno and we weren’t short of drama
The Acerbis Czech Round threw up all sorts of on track action, drama and intrigue. Starting with some unpredictable weather conditions on Friday, the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship settled back into the Brno circuit in fine form and there was plenty of action to follow throughout the weekend. We’ve handpicked some of that action here for you.
Getting reacquainted with the 5.4km circuit on Friday meant fans were treated to seeing our WorldSBK riders make some impressive lines, as well as make some strong saves. Take a look at Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) getting his ZX-10RR out of shape throughout free practice.

Making history, WorldSBK Race One offered a stunning display of race craft from Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team), who checked out in style. Leading from the first corner of the race to the final lap, Rea as utterly dominant and took his 60th WorldSBK victory to become the first rider to take over 59 victories in WorldSBK. Throwing up drama, rivalries and emotion, race two of the Acerbis Czech Round provided the sixth different winner of the 2018 season. Alex Lowes (Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Team) controlled the race from the front of the pack, and secured an assertive victory. Whilst Michael van der Mark (Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Team) made it a Yamaha one-two, and it was the second race of the season without a Kawasaki rider on the podium.
Jonathan Rea now has even more titles to his name, becoming the first rider to reach 60 WorldSBK victories – overtaking Carl Fogarty on the overall victories list. Remember his first victory? Enjoy a compilation of highlights from the British rider’s success – starting back in 2009.
Jules Cluzel (NRT) vs Sandro Cortese (Kallio Racing) have an intense rivalry building, as the battle came down to the final lap in WorldSSP at Brno. Enjoy the final lap clash that meant decided the victor.
Yamaha are back on top in WorldSSP300, as Indonesian Galang Hendra Pratama (BIBLION YAMAHA MOTOXRACING) took a dominant victory on Sunday, as the riders narrowly missed the rain downpour. Take a look at his sensational second victory, as he started from pole position.
Rea and Sykes came together on lap two of the WorldSBK race, but it wasn’t over after the crash. Rea stayed track side to cheer Sykes on, after the Northern Irish rider believes he was taken out by his team-mate. Take a look at the incident and decide for yourself.
